Traxim Centreline Tool

Geospatial data conversion tool to create and manage centreline geometry for use with Traxim

v2024.02.24-fix

Convert Google Earth kml to Traxim Centerline csv

Use Google Earth Pro's Add Path Tool to draw an approximate centerline of the desired alignment.

For best results, use more points to capture curves and fewer points on long straights. Limit anomalies by gradually increasing and decreasing the relative spacing between points.

Save the alignment as a KML to a convenient local directory.

This tool will attempt to curve fit the selected points to generate a regular 25 meter interval centerline optimised for use with Traxim.

Actual cumulative geometric distance will be calculated and returned in the kilometrage column. This can subsequently be adjusted to match official kilometrages.

Clicking "Convert to Traxim Centreline" will convert the selected files, and automatically download them as a zip file.

This tool doesn't generate altitude data. We recommend https://www.gpsvisualizer.com/elevation to populate elevation.

Convert Traxim Centerline csv to Google Earth kmz

Select Traxim centerline csv files to convert them to Google Earth kmz files.

Visualising the track geometry in Google Earth provides an easy way to identify errors, and to correlate nominal kilometrages to rail network features.

The output will be a single lines.kmz file containing all centerlines organized in folders, with normal and low-detail versions, plus kilometrage markers.

Clicking "Convert to Google Earth" will convert the selected files, and automatically download the index.kmz as a zip file.

This can be opened in Google Earth Pro. Just drag and drop. Please be patient: Large files may take some time to load in Google Earth.
